BOJUKA SELF DEFENSE SEMINAR TRAINING WEEKEND
March 17, 2007
Chad Barry's Martial Arts hosted personal protection expert Tom Schrenk for a Bojuka Self Defense Seminar at the Chatham YMCA on March 17, 2007. Tom's evolutionary Bojuka
Self Defense system is easy to learn, fast and effective. He is a former fugitive recovery team leader and currently works for the FBI as a Close Quarter Combat Instructor.
The five hour seminar was attended by 25 entusiastic participants from Chatham, London, and the Greater Toronto Area. The first half of the seminar covered the foundation of the Bojuka
Self Defence System and focussed on unarmed defensive tactics. The second half pulled from the fundamentals of unarmed self defense for applications against an assailant with an edged
weapon and knife to knife combatives. Tom demonstrated the destructive power of the blade by slashing and stabbing through demin. Demin is much harder to cut through than human flesh.
This simple but effective demonstration really gave the participants a respect for the dangers involved in a bladed assault.
CBMA STUDENTS GET PRIVATE SESSIONS WITH TOM SCHRENK
As an added bonus, Tom taught closed sessions to CBMA students on Sunday afternoon and Monday evening. This provided the select Chatham group with an additional 6 hours of Bojuka
training first hand from the system's founder. Tom also shared some of his personal experience, which gave the students a greater appreciation for how and why the system was developed.
Every technique in the Bojuka arsenal has been tested in real life violent confrontations with career criminals. The training sessions were intense and covered both unarmed and armed self
defense techniques including knife and stick disarms. Tom also demonstrated the smashing power of the ASP Tactical Baton using coconuts. A coconut requires and impact force of 1600 pounds
per square inch to break open, while the human head only requires 1400 pounds per square inch. Every student had the opportunity with shatter a coconut and gain an appreciation for the power
of the baton or stick. Much was learned by everyone.
TOM SCHRENK MAKES PRESENTATIONS
At the end of Monday's training session Tom made two presentations. The first was to Jake Jubenville for achieving Bojuka Skill Level One. The second presentation was to Chad Barry for
completing Bojuka Skill Level Four. Skill Level Four is reserved for Bojuka Certified Instructors and is presented only to a select few. Congratulations to both Jake and Chad on their accomplishments.
